IDA’s latest Motivational Monday, “Sound Walls – Making the Speech to Print Connection in Your Classroom,” is presented by Mary Ellis Dahlgren, Ph.D. You can watch it any time at our Digital Dyslexia Library.
In this webinar, Dr. Dahlgren asks us to take a moment to think about how we have 26 letters and 44 sounds that make up the English language. It’s not a 1-to-1 correspondence, but we treat it like that when we post word walls in classrooms. For example, the digraph sh represents a specific sound, but most word walls have words such as she and should posted under the letter s. In this webinar, we will reconsider how children learn our language going from speech to print by using a sound wall as a tool for implementing the Science of Reading in your classroom.
