DDIG – “How Does the Brain Learn to Read and Why Do Some Children Struggle”

February 13, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join Dr. Jason Yeatman is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Education and Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Stanford University. In this talk he will first lay out the neurobiological underpinnings of literacy and ask the question: “Why do some children struggle learning to read?” Then, Dr. Yeatman will present data showing how intensive reading intervention programs can reshape development of the brain’s reading circuitry. Finally, he will conclude by introducing a new, open-access, online assessment platform – The Rapid Online Assessment of Reading (ROAR; https://roar.stanford.edu/ ) – that Stanford is developing to lower the barriers to assessment.
