Dyslexia Day at the Capitol 2022

February 8, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

DDGA organizes an annual Dyslexia Day at the Capitol. This year it will be held as a hybrid event on Tuesday, February 8.

Detailed UPDATE from DDGA as of February 7: https://www.facebook.com/decodingdyslexiaga/

Update on Feb. 3: WE’RE GOING HYBRID ON TUESDAY!

Dear Dyslexia Advocates:

We learned on Tuesday (Feb. 1) that some small groups were at the Senate and received recognition in the Gallery. After some scrambling, we learned that the House and Senate are operating under different COVID rules. When we were told a few weeks ago we couldn’t be there, it was because our room reservation was done through the House.

We have made arrangements with the Senate to come to the Capitol in a smaller group on Tuesday. We have been told we will be allowed to access the Gallery and we have asked two Senators to recognize us and for a reading of the Senate Resolution proclaiming it Dyslexia Day 2022. We will also have the opportunity to give our information packets and cookies to legislators in person in their offices. The current rules for the Capitol have some areas blocked and we will have to request to meet with some key legislators and see if they will leave the floor to speak to us. Legislators are not coming “to the ropes” as they have in the past. We are hopeful to get a picture on the stairs.

If you would like to come Tuesday the 8th, plan to be there by 9 AM. We may be able to get a room where we can meet in advance, hand out packets and give everyone stickers to wear.  We are also waiting to hear timing for a possible photo.  Stay tuned!

This will be a “lean and mean” operation. If you do not feel comfortable coming to the Capitol in person, we will still have some online content going on our Facebook page. We understand this is likely to keep our wonderful school groups from attending and we’re sorry about this. We still want you to reach out to your legislators. We are officially asking the legislature to consider adding more money to fund SB48 (2019) in the next budget.

If you choose to come, there is parking around the Capitol, or you could take Marta to either the Five Points Station or Georgia State Station and walk from there.

We will not stay past 1 PM, because committee meetings take place most afternoons. We will not be doing lunch as we have in the past.

Thank you and we hope you can be with us either in person or online on Tuesday the 8th.
