The State Board of Education of Ohio has not yet voted to approve the Dyslexia Guidebook as required by a law (HB436) due to ongoing disagreement over its contents. In this Saturday Morning Coffee, Dr. David Brobeck and Mr. Aaron Bouie III will discuss the following key questions that have emerged in testimony and deliberation over the Guidebook:
- Do children really learn to read in different ways?
- Is multisensory structured literacy really an evidence-based best practice and method for intervention and remediation?
- Does the Dyslexia Guidebook recommend a specific curriculum?
Policy makers, parents, community members, and educators are invited to attend. Dr. Brobeck and Mr. Bouie will examine testimony and letters of support submitted by professors from sixteen universities across Ohio, including The Ohio State University, and address questions from participants.
