The Power of Personal Narratives

If you work with kids, you probably work on narrative writing. But did you know that working on narratives—in both oral and written language has profound effects from helping students to work through emotional issues and trauma, to improving health outcomes from decreased chance of drug abuse and crime to higher chances of fighting cancer and healing from heart attacks, to increasing executive functions and problem solving, all the way through to creating a stronger, more coherent and efficacious sense of self. Join board certified educational therapist Diana Kennedy to explore the many facets and ways to harness the Power of Personal Narrative.

Speaker: Diana Kennedy

Diana Black Kennedy is a board certified educational therapist with a thriving private practice in San Anselmo, California. Her extensive classroom experience spans second grade through high school; rural, urban and suburban settings; and public and private schools. For the last 12 years, she has worked one-on-one with students with learning difficulties as an Educational Therapist. She loves working with all of her diverse, unique students, including those with learning disabilities, those who are gifted and talented, and those who are twice exceptional. She also teaches at the UCSC extension Educational Therapy certificate program. Diana holds a Certificate in Educational Therapy from the University of California, Santa Cruz, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s Degree in English Literature from Indiana University, Bloomington. She presents and provides professional development nationally and internationally. She writes a blog about education at www.MindSparkLearning.com
