Charter Branches are like extensions of the IDA National Home Office, and work closely with the Home Office during the development phase. These unique branches help push the vision of IDA through targeted activities like membership and fundraising drives, accreditation and Structured Literacy events, and more.

The International Dyslexia Association is seeking 3-10 passionate volunteers to join Charter start-up teams!
We’re looking for individuals who are:
✅ Passionate about literacy and dyslexia awareness
✅ Committed to IDA’s mission and vision
✅ Interested in driving community impact
✅ Experienced in any of the following areas:
- Nonprofit development
- Strategic or program planning
- Fundraising & donor engagement
- Event planning
- Finance
- Education & advocacy
- Law
- Public/media relations
- Business leadership
✅ Able to contribute about 2 hours per week for 3–6 months during the start-up phase

What You’ll Gain as a Start-Up Team Member
Joining an IDA Charter start-up team offers a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in nonprofit development while helping launch a new Charter Branch from the ground up. You’ll play a historic role in shaping the Charter, with a chance to serve on its inaugural Board of Directors. Throughout the process, you’ll receive comprehensive resources from IDA’s Home Office to ensure your success. Most importantly, you’ll help create lasting change by advancing literacy and dyslexia awareness in your state- impacting lives for generations to come.
IDA Charter Development Timeline
Launching an IDA branch takes approximately 3-6 months and follows structured phases to ensure a strong, sustainable start.

Learn about Charter development, form a start-up team, and apply with IDA to become a Charter Branch in your area. |
Phase 2 |
Incorporation Set-Up |
Establish the Charter’s basic legal infrastructure using IDA templates and guidance. |
Phase 3 |
Organizational Planning |
Draft bylaws, elect your board, create a one-year plan and budget, and begin your first membership campaign. |
Phase 4 |
Business Operations Development |
Get your financial systems in place and finalize compliance records with support from IDA. |
Phase 5 |
Charter Finalization |
Receive approval and recognition from IDA’s Board as new Charter Branch, complete required training, and officially sign your Charter Branch Agreement solidifying the Charter’s relationship with IDA! |
