LEAP Celebrates 10 Years


LEAPThe east central Illinois LEAP group (Linking Educators and Parents), organized with assistance from the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) in June of 2006, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a Public Forum on Dyslexia at the Urbana Free Library in Urbana, Illinois on February 23, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. (CST). The event will feature a video interview with Michael Yudin, Assistant Secretary of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services. He will discuss how the U.S. Department of Education is encouraging schools to use the terms dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia in their IEPs and evaluations. Kevin Seymour, the forum moderator will field comments and questions following the video.

During the past 10 years LEAP has provided over 70 free workshops for teachers and parents. Past presenters will be honored at the forum. LEAP would like to thank its partners: IDA for their ongoing support, the library for providing a perfect venue, The Reading Group for housing the LEAP book collection, Rotary Clubs of east central Illinois for assisting in dyslexia awareness programs in public libraries in east central Illinois, and ROE SchoolWorks for providing certificates of attendance for educators.
