IDA Branches Host Dyslexia Awareness Month Events

It’s Dyslexia Awareness Month! The IDA Home Office and IDA Flowers for postBranches are busy throughout the year raising awareness, but in October IDA is busier than ever. All across the United States IDA Branches are holding special events ranging from webinars to panel discussions to promote dyslexia awareness.  Check back with us regularly as we highlight these and other activities leading up to the IDA Annual Conference in Grapevine, Texas. Here’s a sample:

If you or someone you know with dyslexia loves art, the Alabama Branch is asking for paintings, drawings, photographs, and sculptures that portray the artist’s expression of dyslexia in regards to how it affects their lives through their strengths and weaknesses. The winner and first runner up of each category of the contest, which runs until October 31st, will receive a prize. Click here for more details.

If you enjoy exercising and supporting a great cause at the same time, on October 11th the Kentucky Branch is hosting their first annual 5K dash as a family event to raise awareness and resources in Frankfort. Similarly, on the 17th, the Georgia Branch is participating in a 5K run/walk on a certified course in Atlanta, Georgia.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have dyslexia? You can find out by participating in a video shoot of a simulation event hosted by the Northern California Branch on October 17th. The Branch will be filming a live video of the Experience Dyslexia simulation, a 90-minute interactive training that shows participants what it is like to live with dyslexia.
