Research indicates that writing about reading supports comprehension. Join Joan Sedita, founder of Keys to Literacy, as she presents practical suggestions for structured, explicit teaching of strategies for writing about text in any subject across grades 3 to 12. Several strategies will be addressed including summarizing, personal response to narrative text, and writing from informational sources.
Joan Sedita is the founder of Keys to Literacy, a professional development organization that trains teachers across the U.S. Joan has been a literacy educator for over 40 years, beginning her career as a teacher and administrator at the Landmark School for students with learning disabilities and dyslexia. She was a lead trainer for Reading First in Massachusetts, a national LETRS trainer and author, and instructor at several colleges prior to founding Keys to Literacy in 2007. Joan trains teachers and consults with numerous districts and state departments of education. She has authored a number of literacy professional development programs including The Key Comprehension Routine, The Key Vocabulary Routine, Keys to Content Writing, Keys to Beginning Reading, and Keys to Early Writing. Joan received her B.S. from Boston College and M. Ed. in Reading from Harvard University.
