The New Hampshire Branch of IDA hosts a free, 60-90 minute Zoom session for parents every other month that focuses on a topic from the IDA Dyslexia Fact Sheets. If you don’t know about the fact sheets, be sure to check them out; they’re current, relevant, and full of great information. In addition to board member panelists, each session will include a guest speaker with deep knowledge of the topic.  

This October 13, Melissa Farral will be the guest speaker discussing dysgraphia. Dysgraphia may co-occur alone or with dyslexia. 

“Dysgraphia is the condition of impaired letter writing by hand, that is, disabled handwriting. Impaired handwriting can interfere with learning to spell words in writing and speed of writing text. Children with dysgraphia may have only impaired handwriting, only impaired spelling (without reading problems), or both impaired handwriting and impaired spelling… Many schools offer accommodations in testing and teaching to students with dysgraphia, but these students also need ongoing, explicit instruction in handwriting, spelling, and composition.” – Virginia Beringer, Understanding Dysgraphia, IDA Fact Sheet
