Keynote Presenter“The Reading Brain: Development, Difficulties, and Intervention” with Joanna ChristodoulouJoanna Christodoulou, EdD, is a developmental cognitive neuroscientist who studies the development and difficulties of reading, math, and attention at the intersection of research and practice. She is associate professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA, as well as a research associate at MIT and adjunct lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.Description: Learning to read is among the greatest achievements in the education context. This presentation will explore how the human brain makes reading possible by repurposing and coordinating linguistic, motor, cognitive, and attentional systems to make meaning of written symbols. We will explore the current research on the cognitive neuroscience of learning to read, how this process differs for children with reading difficulties, and how brain plasticity is related to reading interventions, as well as the connection to essential literacy practices. |
